RICHARDS, Carol Luanna -- Carol Luanna RICHARDS, 80, of Alexander, died of cancer Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Mrs. RICHARDS was born July 1, 1927, in Fairfield, the daughter of Leo and Lucile DRUMMOND KEPLER. She married George RICHARDS July 26, 1953, at Barhydt Chapel at Parsons College. He died in 1989.
Mrs. RICHARDS grew up in Fairfield where she attended school and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1945. She then attended Parsons College in Fairfield from 1945-1947. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College until receiving her bachelor's degree 1949. She later did graduate work at Iowa State University and Drake University.
Mrs. RICHARDS started teaching at Belmond High School in 1949 and taught there until 1955. Later she taught again in Belmond from 1967 until 1985. She also taught at Meservey-Thornton High School from 1963 until 1967. She supervised student teaching for ISU in home economics from 1969 until 1985.
She enjoyed reading, gardening flowers, music, sharing time with friends and traveling with her husband. She also did embroidery, hardanger, bridge and golf.
Mrs. RICHARDS had played the organ for United Methodist Church in Alexander since 1985.
She was a member of Belmond Century Club, Belmond Country Club, Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, National Education Association and Iowa State Education Association.
Surivors include one son, David RICHARDS of Des Moines; one daughter, Joan RICHARDS of Iowa City; two sisters, Evelyn FORDYCE of Mound, Minn., and Aileen EMRY of Fairfield; and one brother, Charles KEPLER of Oklahoma City, Okla.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Edward; and one sister, Lucille IRELAND.
