JOHNSON, Maynard D. -- Maynard D. JOHNSON, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery with military services by American Legion O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775. The body has been cremated.
A memorial has been established to First Lutheran Church.
Mr. JOHNSON was born May 2, 1923, in Salina, the son of Tilford and Vada JOHNSON JOHNSON. He married Alberta BURNETT May 4, 1947.
Mr. JOHNSON was a graduate of Fairfield High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. A resident of Ottumwa since 1950, he was a Union Electrician for more than 40 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. JOHNSON was a member of First Lutheran Church, Davenport Consistory, KAABA Shrine, American Legion O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775. He was a 50-year member of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge No. 16 AF & AM.
He enjoyed car racing, traveling and spending winters in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Steven JOHNSON and wife Jackie of Orion, Ill.; one daughter, Toni JOHNSON of Ottumwa; one daughter-in-law, Linda JOHNSON of Ottumwa; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Randy JOHNSON; one brother, Rueben JOHNSON; and one sister, Thelma CARLSON.
