SMUTZ, Donna -- Donna SMUTZ, 80, of Keosauqua, died at 12:06 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, in the Van Buren County Hospital emergency room in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

SMUTZ, Donna J. -- Donna J. SMUTZ, 80, of Keosauqua, died at 12:06 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at the Van Buren County Hospital emergency room in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Apo Mpanda officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. followed by family visitation until 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Van Buren County Emergency Medical Service. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1962 Libertyville Road, Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. SMUTZ was born April 9, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Neil and Vera HARTMAN FOGELSONG. She married Harry RICH. He died during World War II on Luzon Island. She married Waldo D. SMUTZ Aug. 5, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield. He died April 27, 1986.

Mrs. SMUTZ was matron of the Van Buren County Jail from 1948-1853 (sic) while Mr. SMUTZ was sheriff of Van Buren County. She and Mr. SMUTZ operated W-D Dairy Creme in Keosauqua for 12 years. She had also worked at Circle B Enterprises, Archie's Market, Corner Cafe and Main Street Antiques, all in Keosauqua.

Mrs. SMUTZ supported the Van Buren and Jefferson county law enforcement officers, as well as their families, and delivered cookies to the offices regularly.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic church in Farmington.

Survivors include five sons, Fred RICH of Tampa, Fla., Sam SMUTZ of Green Pond, S.C., Joe SMUTZ of Fairfield, Bill SMUTZ of Belmond and Gene SMUTZ of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Cindy QUINT of Plainfield, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill FOGELSONG of Keosauqua; and one sister, Madge YOUNG of Cedar Rapids.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one great-granddaughter.
