Maurice Dean Millard, 74, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at the Henry County Health Center.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Daryl Coffin officiating. Burial will be in Lockridge Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the chapel, with family present from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Henry County’s Oakland Mills Park.

Mr. Millard was born March 18, 1932, in Cuba, Ill., the son of Leo and Coletha Haynes Millard. He married Margaret Lee August 24, 1952, in Fairfield.

Mr. Millard was a 1950 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He was employed at Dexter in Fairfield, the post offices in Des Moines and Mount Pleasant, and Superior Cable as a supervisor. He also was self-employed for more than 30 years. He owned Rama Fur Company, which bought furs and sold trapping supplies, with his son. He also owned and operated the Oakland Mills Store and Bait shop for many years.

Mr. Millard served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Maureen Edwards and husband David of Mount Pleasant, Laura Millard of Salem and Mary Stoner and husband Tim of Mount Pleasant; one son, Ray Millard and wife Rita of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, Fred Millard of Bartlesville, Okla., and Bud Crawford of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Marlo Millard; and three brothers, Thomas Millard, Mahlon Millard, and Ira Millard.
