CONNER, C. D. 'Ike' -- C. D. "Ike" CONNER age 81 of Richland died Monday at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

Born November 16, 1925 in Keokuk County, Iowa, the son of Isaac and Alma NEAL CONNER. Ike graduated from Sigourney High School in 1943.

He was a Army veteran of World War II where he received 2 Purple Hearts for wounds received while serving in Okinawa.

Ike was superintendent and general manager of CONNER Brothers Construction. They built many of the buildings on Parsons College campus, and Rathbun Fish Hatchery, hospitals, and schools in Eastern Iowa including the Washington Junior High School and other buildings in Ottumwa, Fairfield, Wellman, Iowa City, and commercial buildings in Burlington, Davenport and Knoxville.

He married Alberta REDLINGER in 1952, they were later divorced. Ike married Linda Ann WIGGINS SUTTON on December 28, 1973 at Rock Island, Illinois.

Ike grew up in Sigourney and lived in Fairfield and Richland. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Ike was an avid golfer.

Deceased family members include his parents, granddaughter Dawn HOMIRE, step-son Joel W. SUTTON, 4 brothers Bob, Pete, Bill and Sam CONNER and 2 sisters Claudine PRELL and Dorothy STREETS.

Surviving are his wife, 1 daughter Cindy (Tim) PFIFFNER of Dubuque, 2 step-sons Larry D. (Sophia YU) of Fairfield and Bryan L. SUTTON of Richland, 4 granddaughters Robin HOMIRE, Lindasy PFIFFNER, Meigen YU and Ailin YU, 2 great granddaughters Emily and Elaina; 1 sister Norma THORBURN of Greeley, Colorado.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Richland United Methodist Church with Reverend Kim Gates. Interment will be in Conner Cemetery Southwest of Sigourney with military honors.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday form 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the V.A. Volunteers at the Iowa City Veterans Hospital.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
