PICKARD, Raymond L. -- Raymond L. PICKARD, 83, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.
Arrangements are pending at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

PICKARD, Raymond L. -- Raymond L. PICKARD, 83, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Milo Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, with full military honors conducted by Henry County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Mount Pleasant Public Library.

Mr. PICKARD was born Feb. 17, 1924, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa, the son of Raymond Leslie and Gladys Mae LEWIS PICKARD. He married Remona Evelyn WOODSMALL June 16, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. She died July 25, 2002.
Mr. PICKARD grew up in Pleasant Plain and was raised in the Quaker faith. He graduated from Pleasant Plain Consolidated High School in 1941.
Mr. PICKARD served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. Following his time in the Navy, he and his wife moved to Pella then Mount Pleasant. In 1947, he began a long career with Rural Electric Cooperative. He retired in 1986 after 39 years with the company. He then took a job delivering Pioneer Seed Corn for Don Lange and retired from that job in 2000.
Mr. PICKARD was a member of Congregational Church of Mount Pleasant, American Legion Robert Tribby Post No. 58 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2561. He volunteered as a train conductor for the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion. He had been a member of International Order of Odd Fellows and Loyal Order of the Moose.
He spent a great deal of time researching, utilizing the public library extensively.
Survivors include one son, Larry of San Francisco, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four half brothers, Ed PICKARD of Batavia, Ronald PICKARD of Fairfield, Donald PICKARD of Brigton and Gary PICKARD of Kirksville, Mo.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Roberta GOWEY; and two half sisters, Bonnie BAGBY and Mary Katherine PICKARD.
