Samuel W. Kitchen Jr., 76, of rural Keosauqua died at 4 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 at home.

A graveside service is set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Batavia Cemetery in Batavia. The body has been cremated.

Memorials may be taken to the service or mailed to the family at 21284 Heather Road, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. Kitchen was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Lockridge, the son of Samuel Sr. and Vernie Maring Kitchen. He married Willa B. Cook in 1959.

Mr. Kitchen grew up in the Lockridge and Brighton area and graduated from Fairfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army 8.5 years from the 1940s-1950s. He lived in Fairfield and worked at Iowa Malleable Iron Company before moving to his Keosauqua home in 1996 when he retired.

Survivors include his wife of Park View Care Center; two sons, Jerry Kitchen and wife Diana and Tim Kitchen and wife Melissa, all of Keosauqua; one daughter, Mona Scotton; one step-daughter, Connie Gwinnup and husband Dennis of Vernon; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; one brother, Jim Kitchen of Blandinsville, Ill.; and two sisters, Kathryn Duncan of Salem and Barbara Milton of Columbia, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Gerald and Donald Kitchen; two sisters, Neva Tedrow and Geraldine Peebler; and one stepson, Danny Droz.
