E. P. TAYLOR, CIVIL WAR VET, DIES AT 98.

Elliott P. TAYLOR, 98, Civil War Veteran, passed away yesterday afternoon at 4:00 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julia BLACK, Newton ..... He fought in many of the major battles of the War between the States, including those at Springfield, Mo.; Memphis, Tenn.; Salina, Ala; Macon, Ga., and Vicksburg, Miss. He was a past commander of the Iowa G.A.R., and commander of the local George Strong Post of G.A.R., of which Michael Franz, 99, is now the sole surviving member. Mr. TAYLOR was born in Aurora, Ill., Dec. 23, 1845. He was married in 1867 to Clara STRONG, who preceded him in death on May 19, 1923. They were the parents of six children. Surviving children are Mrs. J. E. GRANT, east of Fairfield, and Mrs. Julia BLACK, Newton. His only son, Clifford, died March 30, 1944. Three daughters preceded him in death; Mrs. Ralph BILLINGSLEY; Jessie May, who died in her youth; and Hattie Maude, who died in infancy. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church in Glasgow, Iowa, in charge of Rev. Charles Cochran. Burial in Glasgow Memorial Cemetery.

(His will, dated April 1, 1930, names "My grandson Elliott BILLINGSLEY; each of my three children, Jennie V. GRANT, Julia G. McCLANE, Clifford (E.?) TAYLOR; grandson Raymond (E. or L.) GRANT.")
