BANGERT, Alta May -- Alta May BANGERT, 89 years, of Montrose, Iowa died at 7:52 pm Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa.

She was born September 15, 1917, in rural Montrose, Iowa to Lloyd Sylvester HARMAN and Cora Alta (HAMILTON) HARMAN.

On October 1, 1937 at Fort Madison, Iowa she married Harold Louis BANGERT. Harold preceded her in death on August 26, 1977.

She was a 1935 graduate of Montrose High School. She was a lifelong resident of the area, except during WWII, when Harold was in the US Navy, they lived on the west coast in Washington and California. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Montrose, Iowa. Alta was very active in her church, the United Methodist Women, quilting, Bible studies, participated with the CROP Walk, and teaching Sunday School. She was a member of the Montrose Senior Citizens, the Garden Club, she was a blood donor and voluteered with the Bloodmobile. She enjoyed living in the country, viewing nature and gardening. She enjoyed canning foods, sewing, and square dancing. She attended many events sponsored by the Lee County Conservation. She enjoyed traveling, she attended "Travelogue", and in later years, she spent a week in the Alaskan wilderness.

Alta is survived by two sons: Richard (wife Karen) BANGERT, of Burlington, Iowa; and David (wife Esther TWEEDY) BANGERT of Donnellson, Iowa, two daughters: Deanna (husband Larry) McLEARN, of Montrose, Iowa; and Barbara BLOOM of Fairfield, Iowa, two sisters: Pearl TWEEDY, of rural Keokuk, Iowa; and Leatha THACHER, of Wilmington, North Carolina, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Frank HARMAN, and two sisters, Edna RUBLE and Hazel KOEHLER.

By her request, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday July 21, 2007 at the Trinity United Methodist Church at Montrose. Reverend Goldie Laymon will officiate. Burial will be at the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, Iowa. Friends are invited to join the family for a meal at the church following the cemetery services. Memorials have been established for the Montrose Library and the Trinity United Methodist Church, Montrose. Contributions may be made at the church the day of the service.
