PARTRIDGE, Hugh L. -- Hugh L. PARTRIDGE, 89, of Danville, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at Danville Care Center in Danville.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Danville, with the Revs. Preston Van Loon and Harry Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville. Henry County Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where family will be present from 5-7 p.m.
Memorials have been established to First Baptist Church of Danville and Danville Fire Department.
Mr. PARTRIDGE was born May 3, 1918, in Dennison, the son of Roy Harper and Edith NEWBERRY PARTRIDGE. He married Betty June EDWARDS Oct. 9, 1948, in Fort Madison. She died Feb. 12, 1996.
Mr. PARTRIDGE attended country school in Charter Oak. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Bronze Star with combat V attachment.
Mr. PARTRIDGE owned and operated Pro Gas Service in Danville for 37 years.
He was a member of Danville First Baptist Church, serving in numerous offices including that of deacon. He was a member of New London Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7641. He had been a member of the Danville Fire Department for 23 years and an honorary member for 30 years. He also served on the Danville City Council. He was co-founder of the Fort Madison Rodeo and a member of the Fort Madison Chamber of Commerce. He organized the first summer Little League in Danville and helped build Forest Lake Baptist Camp south of Ottumwa.
Mr. PARTRIDGE enjoyed woodworking, camping, visiting with neighborhood children, gardening and collecting canes.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry PARTRIDGE and wife Mary Ann of Fairfield and Terry PARTRIDGE and wife Beth of St. Charles, Ill.; one daughter, Sherry DRINKALL and husband Paul of Danville; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two half sisters, Ethel GHAN of Springfield, Mo., and Ramona GAUTHIER of Kansas City, Mo; and one half brother, Melvin WRIGHT of Three Hills, Alberta, Canada.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; and three brothers, Paul, LeRoy and Don.
