NELSON, Joseph 'Chester' -- Joseph "Chester" NELSON, 96, of Farson, died Friday, June 15, 2007, at home.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont. Interment will follow in Competine Cemetery near Farson.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fremont Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Competine Cemetery.

Mr. NELSON was born Feb. 17, 1911, near Abingdon, the son of Joseph Ray and Clara SMITH NELSON. He married Maxine McWILLIAMS Dec. 11, 1932, in Ottumwa. She died in 1990.

Mr. NELSON attended Devil Lake School north of Abingdon. He was a farmer his entire life, farming in Jefferson and Wapello counties.

He enjoyed the outdoors, farming and raising and breeding Belgian horses.

Mr. NELSON was inducted into the Belgian Horse Breeders Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. He also was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Abingdon.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Arlene NELSON of Fairfield and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Marilyn Jean NELSON; three brothers, Wallace, Morris and Merle; and one sister, Martha NELSON.
