Mon., Dec. 18, 2006, p. 8.Genevieve Justine FUSCO, 90, of New Castle, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Fosnights Personal Care Home in Gibsonia, Pa.
A funeral mass was held Thursday at St. Camillus Church in New Castle, and burial was in Castle View Memorial Gardens in New Castle.
The family requests memorials to the New Castle Community Y, 20 W. Washington St., New Castle, PA 16101.
Mrs. FUSCO was born Nov. 21, 1916, in New Castle, the daughter of John DICAPRIO and Justine Russo DICAPRIO. She attended parochial and public schools in New Castle. She married Dominec Robert FUSCO Feb. 14, 1942, in New Castle. Mr. FUSCO died in 2005.
During World War II, Mrs. FUSCO managed the Penn Apartments in New Castle. When her husband was transferred from the Pacific theater of war to Fort Lee, Va., she joined him and worked at Brown and Williamson Cigarette Company and Mac’s Chicken House, both in Petersburg.
Upon returning to Pennsylvania, the FUSCOS opened The Virginia Manor, the first restaurant in New Castle to specialize in southern fried chicken. Later, Mrs. FUSCO trained as a seamstress in Pittsburgh, and she operated her own sewing business in New Castle for 30 years. She also worked as a saleswoman and demonstrated sewing machines for Martin’s Sew and Vac.
Mrs. FUSCO was a member of St. Camillus Church.
Her hobbies included swimming, organic vegetable and flower gardening, canning, baking, sewing, quilting and many other crafts.
Survivors include two children, Robert D. FUSCO and wife Jean of Sewickley, Pa., and Cheryl A. JOHNSON and husband David of Fairfield; and four grandchildren.
Mrs. FUSCO was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Madelin Sacco DICAPRIO; two sisters; four brothers; and an infant grandson.
