KNEDLER, Irvin Dale 'Speck' -- Irvin Dale "Speck" KNEDLER, 87, of Topsham, Maine, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at home.

A memorial service was held Jan. 18 in Augusta, Maine.

Memorials may be made to Chans Home Health Care and Hospice, 60 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011.

Mr. KNEDLER was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Estal Decora and Mary A. WERNER KNEDLER.

Mr. KNEDLER graduated from Fairfield High School in 1939. He worked at Iowa Malleable Iron Company.

Mr. KNEDLER was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1936 until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1941. He served during World War II in the Phillippines, China and later Cuba. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951.

He moved to Portland, Maine, in 1947 and worked at Portland Stove Foundry.

He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the American Legion and Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara COFFIN KNEDLER; one sister, Helen SCHLARBAUM of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Marion Louise KNEDLER of Northwood, N.H.; three sons, Richard Dale KNEDLER and wife Susan of Sebago Lake, Maine, Thomas Irvin KNEDLER Sr. and wife Marlene of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Timothy KNEDLER and wife Lisa of New Gloucester, Maine; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by five (sic) brothers, Harold, Albert, Earl, Marvin, Donald and Paul.
