KING, Robert F. 'Bob' -- Robert F. "Bob" KING, 80, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.

A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pat Youngquist and the Rev. Jeannie Megorden officiating. Burial, with full military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard, will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Visitation began at noon today at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where family will be present from 5-8 p.m.

Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church or Edd KING Memorial Foundation.

Mr. KING was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Iliff F. and Flossie E. FORD KING. He married Mary E. SCHMIDT Sept. 8, 1950, in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. KING was a 1944 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II.

Mr. KING was a produce manager for Swift & Co. and then worked as a manager for Northern Propane in the Mount Pleasant and Stockport areas. He bought and sold ponies. For 18 years, prior to his retirement in 1986, Mr. KING worked for the Mount Pleasant Community School District as the buildings and grounds supervisor.

Mr. KING was a member of First United Methodist Church and Bob Tribby American Legion Post No. 58, where he served as commander for several years. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer fireman for 13 years with the Mount Pleasant Fire Department.

He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and collectible cars.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Tom KING and wife Jody of Manchester; two grandsons; two brothers, Wayne KING of Mount Pleasant and Richard KING of Ankeny; and one sister, Selma SIMMONS of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edd KING and Ray KING.
