CHALUPA, Clement C. -- Clement C. CHALUPA, 97, of Richland, died at 7:06 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Washington County Hospital in Washington.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

CHALUPA, Clement Clarence -- Clement Clarence CHALUPA, 97, of Richland, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church in Richland, with the Rev. Charles J. Fladung officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery in Richland.

A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church. Prayers for a Christian Wake will follow, as will family visitation until 8:30 p.m.

Memorials to Richland Public Library or Richland Senior Citizen Center may be left at the church or mailed to 1124 Germanville Road, Brighton 52540.

Arrangements are in the care of Gould Funeral Home of Richland.

Mr. CHALUPA was born Dec. 5, 1909, in Kalona, the son of James and Penny PROHASKA CHALUPA. He married Orina GREINER Oct. 23, 1941, at Saints Peter and Paul (Holy Trinity) Clear Creek Catholic Church. She died in 1987. Mr. CHALUPA grew up in the Kalona area and attended Kalona schools. He and his wife lived in the Kalona area, working for Steve Wolfer and Earl and Juanita Redlinger before purchasing their own farm and moving to Richland in 1950. He retired from farming in 1978, then worked for BY Farm Market in Richland until 1985.

Mr. CHALUPA was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a land conservationist. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family.

Survivors include nine children, Arlene FRITZ and husband Gary of Brighton, Janice STEHL and husband Ron of Des Moines, Shirley JUHL and husband Bill of Columbus Junction, Naomi BOHR and husband Larry of Decatur, Ill., Bonita CHARLES and husband Stephen of Manchester, Ky., John CHALUPA of Ottumwa, Deanna McBETH and husband Forrest of Richland, Patricia GRIFFIN of Richland and Mary JACKSON and husband Bruce of Manchester, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons, Jerome and David; two sisters; and two brothers.
