Charles E. BELL

Funeral Service and Mass of Christian Burial for Charles E. BELL, 78, a resident of Davenport was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A visitation was held at the Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home.

Charles died at home surrounded by his loving family Saturday, January 6, 2007.

Charles Edward BELL was born April 1, 1928 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Dean and Rosa H. (HILDING) BELL. Charles graduated from Fairfield High School.

Charles served his country during the Korean War as a chief utility man with the Navel (sic) Sea Bees. He was united in marriage to Mary Joanne MICLOT May 16, 1953 in Davenport. Charles retired in 1985 from the Rock Island Arsenal after 35 years of employment as a steamfitter.

Charles was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral where he volunteered in the food pantry and the clothing center. He was a member of the US Navy Fleet Reserves and the National Association of Federal Retired Employees. He was an avid Notre Dame, Chicago Cub and Hawkeye fan. He was a Boy Scout leader and helped coach flag football and softball. Charles loved spending time with his grandchildren; they were such an important part of his life.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Survivors include his wife Mary Joanna (MICLOT) BELL of Davenport; daughters, Marianne (Robert) OVERHOLT, Geralyn (Tim) FRAZER, Theresa (Joe) DeVINE, all of Davenport and Kathy (Mike) GURVEY, Glenview, Il. sons, Richard (Beth) BELL Eugene, Or. and Edward (Ramona) BELL, Naperville, Il. grandchildren, Ryland and Chris BELL, Jenna and Kara GURVEY, Stephen BELL, Helene and Kate DeVINE and Daniel, Maria, and Rose FRAZER; sisters in law, Sue (Don) EPPING, Davenport, Sally PACKARD, Minneapolis, Mn. and Kay (Bob) ARZBERGER, Davenport and many loving nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard Dean BELL and a brother in law, Gerald MICLOT.
