Homer AVERY

Homer AVERY, 84, of Fairfield, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.

The body will be cremated, and no service will be held in accordance with his wishes. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Independent Church, Antioch Cemetery or the Nelson Hursing Home activity fund or van fund and sent to 806 S. Third St., Fairfield 52556. Online condolences may be sent at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com .

Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. AVERY was born July 26, 1922, in Jefferson County, the son of Bert and Sadie Myrtle COOP AVERY. He married Maxine FORNEY Oct. 9, 1943, at Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. AVERY and his wife lived in Fairfield until 1956, then moved north of Cantril and in 1990, moved back to Fairfield. He farmed and was a heavy equipment operator. He did soil conservation work for 29 years. He then was employed as operator of the Van Buren County landfill. He retired April 1, 1986.

Mr. AVERY served in the U.S. Army in World War II from Oct. 1942 to Jan. 1946, serving in France.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard of Kellogg; two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson; one stepgreat-grandson; and two sisters, Cecile MORROW of Tucson, Ariz., and Margaret ORMS of Pleasant Plain.

He was preceded in death by one son, Garry Allan; his parents; four sisters, Jean AVERY, Edna CARROLL, Fern DICKINSON and Helen POOL; and three brothers, Silbert, Merle and Gerald AVERY.

Homer was the son of Bert and Sadie Myrtle COOP AVERY. He was born July 26, 1922 in Jefferson County, Iowa. On October 9, 1943 he married Maxine FORNEY at Kahoka, Missouri. They lived in Fairfield until 1956, and then moved north of Cantril, Iowa and in 1990 moved back to Fairfield.

Homer farmed and was a heavy equipment operator and did soil conservation work for 29 years. He then was employed by Van Buren County as operator of the Van Buren County landfill. He retired April 1, 1986.

Homer served in the US Army in WWII from October 1942 to January 1946 and served overseas in France. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; one son Richard and his special friend Kelley HENNING of Hellogg, Iowa; two granddaughters, Cynthia Sue AVERY and husband Jeff WELDON of Newton, Iowa, Christine Ann and husband Kevin AREND of Altoona, Iowa; two great granddaughters, Madigan Nicole and Karsyn Rae AREND and a great grandson Jace Richard WELDON; one great step grandson, J.R. WELDON; two sisters, Cecile MORROW of Tucson, Arizona and Margaret ORMS of Pleasant Plain, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son Garry Allan; his parents; four sisters, Jean AVERY, Edna CARROLL, Fern DICKINSON and Helen POOL and three brothers, Silbert, Merle and Gerald AVERY.

The Raymond fundral home in Fairfield was in charge of arrangements.
