Dodds E. “Chip” CHARLESTON, 50, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City from injuries sustained in a car accident.

A private service will be held by the family.

Open visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. CHARLESTON was born March 11, 1956, in North Hollywood, Calif., the son of Dodds and Rita Schmidt CHARLESTON. He married Lynn SHIRAI in 1981 in Camarillo, Calif. The couple later divorced. Recently, he married Bonny DAVIS in Fairfield.

Mr. CHARLESTON graduated with a master’s degree from California State University in Northridge, Calif., in 1981, and with a doctorate in psychology form University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., in 1984.

Mr. CHARLESTON spent his youth in Camarillo and moved to Fairfield in 1984. A professor of psychology at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, he served as the division chair of human studies.

He was a multi-talented musician.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Sean CHARLESTON of Fairfield; two daughters, Malia and Emi CHARLESTON, both of Fairfield; his mother, of Camarillo; one brother, John CHARLESTON of California; three sisters, Tina BAILIE of California, Colleen O’NEILL of Arizona and Celeste SPAETHE of Florida; one stepdaughter, Ann DAVIS of Mount Pleasant; and one stepson, John DAVIS of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his father.
