Wednesday, February 8, 2006Violet M. BURK, 88, of Wayland, formerly of the Mount Pleasant and Fairfield area, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Parkview Home in Wayland.
A service is set for 1 p.m. Friday at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Phil Slabaugh officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Parkview Home or Bethel Mennonite Church.
Mrs. BURK was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Caleb and Rachel DESPAIN PICKETT. She married Otto Frank BURK Sept. 17, 1936, in Jefferson County.
Mrs. BURK had worked at Leggit Hotel, Woody’s Steak House, Parsons College, and Tenco Products, all in Fairfield. She also had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown.
She enjoyed fellowship and spending time with her family.
Survivors include four children, Vickie HOUSH of Mount Pleasant, Peggy SEMPF and husband Danny of Mount Pleasant, Jerry BURK and wife Joyce of Ottumwa, and Rex BURK and wife Connie of Anderson, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Phil; one great-grandson; and one half-sister Irene VANDOERMEER.
