Loriene Elizabeth SPANIER, 83, formerly of Packwood, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Packwood Christian Church, with the Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Center Cemetery in Packwood.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland with the family present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials have been established to Packwood Christian Church or American Cancer Society.

Mrs. SPANIER was born April 18, 1923, near Stockport, the daughter of David N. and Anna M. Snowbarger COX. She married Everett SPANIER May 18, 1941, in LeGrand. He died Jan. 5, 2003.

Mrs. SPANIER grew up in the Richland area and graduated from Richland High School in 1941. In 1945, she and her husband moved to Packwood where she worked for the United States Postal Service from 1959 until her retirement in 1983. She moved to Fairfield in 2000.

Mrs. SPANIER was a member of Packwood Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary, Packwood Sew and So Club and a former member of the Packwood Housing Board.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading.

Survivors include one daughter Jane PEIRCE and husband Richard of West Des Moines; one son, Bryan SPANIER and wife Sue of Fairfield; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; two stepgrandsons; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, J. Ted COX of Bushnell, Ill.; and one sister, Velma EHRICH of Springfield, Mo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Peggy S. DUBEY; one grandson; four sisters, Violet MORROW, Leora VAN DYKE, Delphia WELLS and Viola COX; and four brothers, Samuel COX, Millard COX, Irvin COX and Merle COX.
