Wed, May 17, 2006, p. 10.BATAVIA — Michael J. RINE, 59, of 1035 220th St., died May 15, 2006 at home.
He was born November 17, 1946 in Harrisburg, PA to Raymond and Hilda Hackenbush RINE. He married Jeanie MURPHY June 27, 1993 in Fort Pierce, Fl.
He had served in the Navy in the Philippines during the Vietnam Conflict.
A resident of Batavia since 1997, he grew up in Beavertown, PA and had lived in California and Florida. He had worked at Elk Hills Oil Reservoir in California, at Tropicana in Florida and was currently employed as maintenance supervisor at The Beach Ottumwa.
His favorite things were helping others, traveling, drag racing, and he was a Corvette enthusiast. He was proud of his military service to his country and enjoyed talking with other veterans and car enthusiasts, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing, reading and classic rock and roll.
He was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church, Kilwinning Masonic Lodge #198 A.F. & A.M. and Vintage Cruisers Car Club.
Surviving is his wife; two sons, Roger and Alan RINE both of Bakersfield, CA; three daughters, Crystal RINE and Erica (Manuel) BARRAZA both of Bakersfield, CA and Alison MULLINNIX of Stanley, VA; three step-daughters, Kelly (Dean) WILLIAMS of Ottumwa, Karen (Joe) CAREW of Irmo SC, Melia MARKLEY of Libertyville; a step-son, Scott MURPHY of Quincy, IL; 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brett, Katlyn and Andrea WILLIAMS, and Nate MURPHY all of Ottumwa, Zack MARKLEY of Libertyville, Jessica MARKLEY of Bloomfield, Isabella Grace CAREW of Irmo, SC; a great-granddaughter, Ella Lou HUGGINS of Bloomfield; two brothers, Raymond RINE of CA and Russell RINE of TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Raphael-Nakos officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Burial will be in Christie Cemetery near Mt. Sterling.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday. A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday followed by family visitation until 8 p.m.
A memorial has been established to Batavia United Methodist Church.
