Theodore Whitham

Theodore R. "Ted" Whitham, 90, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of New London, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at Park Place in Mount Pleasant.

Born Aug. 29, 1908, near Fairfield, Jefferson County, he was the son of Roy R. and Bertha McGrew Whitham. On Jan. 1, 1929, he married Almeda L. Miller in Fairfield.

The Rev. Whitham was a farmer and ordained minister, serving pastorates in Missouri, New York, Nebraska and Iowa. He was a 1927 graduate of Fairfield High School and a graduate of Moody Bible Institute of Chicago and Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute in St. Louis.

He was a former state member of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America and director of Missouri Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ruth Willits of New London; two sons, David T. Whitham of Kenosha, Wis., and Paul R. Whitham of Rockford, Ill.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Grace Whitham of Fairfield, Hazel Whitham and Mae Whitham Ramsey, both of Des Moines, and Lucille Whitham Kepford of West Des Moines; and two brothers, Frank Whitham and Charles Whitham, both of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson.

Visitation will begin after noon Monday in Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Rev. Whitham will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

Memorials have been established for Park Place activity fund and Child Evangelism Fellowship of Iowa.
