Delbert L. MCCRACKEN, 85, of Keosauqua died at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, at his home.

The funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial, with military rites by the American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113 of Keosauqua, will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with family present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa or Beer-Barker Post may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 203, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. MCCRACKEN was born Jan. 31, 1921, north of Bentonsport, the son of Albert Dean and Margaret Jane Witt MCCRACKEN. He married V. Evelyn CARRUTHERS Dec. 15, 1947, in the chapel of First Methodist Church in Fairfield.

He attended Woods country school and worked as a general farm hand until he was inducted into the U.S. Army June 18, 1942. He served in Europe June 6, 1944, to Jan. 3, 1945, and was discharged Dec. 18, 1945. He was a combat infantryman and ammunition bearer. He was wounded in action July 20, 1944, in France. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Normandy Campaign Battle Star, Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal and American Theatre Ribbon.

Mr. MCCRACKEN was employed by Van Buren County Secondary Roads Department for 18 years and by the Iowa Department of Transportation in highway maintenance for 12 years.

He was a charter member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Keosauqua, a 61-year member of Beer-Barker Post, and a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Delbert Dale MCCRACKEN and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Nancy Lee WOODS and husband Danny of Walnut Shade, Mo.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen WARREN of Moville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert MCCRACKEN; and one sister, Rose Marie FERREL.
