Tuesday, July 11, 2006, pg. 8.William R. “Bill” FISHER, 88, of Monroe, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, at his home.
A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Beth Ann French officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation began at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home; the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion.
Mr. FISHER was born April 21, 1918 in Albia, the son of Warren E. and Bertha Tyrrel FISHER. He married Martha ANDERSON Feb. 3, 1946.
Mr. FISHER served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941-1945 in the European Theatre with the 34th Division. He had farmed southwest of Ottumwa and retired in 2001, moving to Monroe.
Mr. FISHER was a member of O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill FISHER, Jr. and wife Janet of Fairfield; two daughters, Shirley TURNER of Freeburg, Ill., and Sandra GERMAN and husband Doug KLEIN of Monroe; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Max FISHER of Blakesburg.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Forrest, Donald and infant Kenneth FISHER; and one sister, Darlene FINKE.
