Page 12, Column 6Mrs. Jerry BATES, one of the oldest residents of the Fairfield community, died Tues. at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Ottumwa where she had been a resident since its opening Jan. 14, 1955. Celebrated her 100th birthday Apr. 23, 1967, at the home of her son Clarence BATES, east of Birmingham. Buried at Salina.
Hattie Melvina BATES born Apr. 23, 1867, on a farm east of Salina which her father had purchased from the government; daughter of John P. and Marie LILLYBLADE ANDERSON; reared and educated in the Salina community and married to Jerry BATES in 1883 at Salina. Member Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Clarence BATES, Birmingham; three grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and nine greatgreatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Aug. 30, 1950, one daughter, one son, one granddaughter and one greatgreatgrandson.
