Sat., Mar. 5, 1966, 8-4.Charles Donald JOHNSON, 45, former resident of Fairfield, died Friday near Los Angeles, Calif., while on a camping trip with his son. He is a brother of Howard JOHNSON, Fairfield.....Howard JOHNSON operates the Johnson Hardware Store.....Don JOHNSON, as he was known here, was born July 10 1920 on a farm near Lockridge, son of C. Russell and Myrtle Nelson JOHNSON. Attended public schools in Lockridge and graduated from University of Iowa at Iowa City as an engineer. He was assistant superintendent of the Ottumwa Waterworks in Ottumwa before moving to California ten years ago. The family resides at North Ridge, a suburb of Los Angeles, and he was employed by the Rocket Dyne Corp. Survived by wife, the former Virginia SHIRKEY, Richland; 3 children, Chuck, 10; Susan, 9, and Carla, 7; his brother, Howard, Fairfield; and his stepmother, Mrs. May JOHNSON, also of Fairfield. Preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Carroll, who died five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Howard JOHNSON and son visited his brother and family in California during the past holiday season.
