Emma P. CARTER, wife of Jacob F. BENNETT, died in this city Saturday, after a protracted illness. The body was interred in the Evergreen cemetery Sunday, funeral services being conducted by Rev. H. C. Littleton, assisted by Rev. J. A. Raines. Rebekah lodge No. 96 had charge of the exercises at the grave. Mrs. BENENTT was born in Henderson county, Ill., October 31st, 1859. She came to Buchanan township, this county, in 1873, with her parents and was married July 25th, 1879. She was the mother of three children, only one of whom is living, Harry G. She has three brothers in this county, W. D., Cyrus and Liberty, and a sister living in Keokuk, Mrs. Harry MITCHELL. Mrs. BENNETT united with the Christian church of this city in 1878, and was also a member of the W. R. C. and Rebekah lodge No. 96. She was an active worker in the church and in these orders. She was an excellent woman in all the relations of life, and there are many friends in the community who will regret her death and sympathize with the stricken family.

Emma P. CARTER was born in Henderson County, Ill., Oct. 31, 1859, died in this city, April 15 1905. She came to Iowa with her parents who settled in Buchanan township this county, about 1873. In the spring of 1878 she became a member of the Christian church in this city. She was united in marriage to Jacob F. BENNETT of this city, on July 25th, 1879. Three children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. Deceased was a member in good standing of Fairfield Rebekah lodge No. 96, also of George Strong Relief Corp. No. 21, G. A. R.
Mrs. BENNETT was a true and faithful worker in the church and societies of which she was a member. She filled her place in home, church and societies in the highest sense of a true Christian wife, mother and friend. She leaves to mourn their loss, a husband, one son, Harry G., two step sons, William and George, three brothers, W. D., Cyrus and Liberty and one sister, Mrs. H. G. MITCHELL, of Keokuk, all of whom were with her in her last illness. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. C. Littleton assisted by J. A. Rains, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Fairfield Rebekah Lodge No. 96 held short services also. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. A true Christian wife and mother is at rest.
