Mrs. Mary Coady Smith, 43, passed away at her home three and on-half miles northeast of Lockridge, at four o’clock Monday afternoon.
She had been ill for the past three weeks, but became suddenly worse Monday. Blocked highways, which county road crews tried in vain to open for a doctor, caused the attending physician to travel by sled to the Smith home.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, James B. Smith, and by the following children: James Leonard, Bernard, Catherine, Ralph and Doris. Her surviving brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Katie M. Lamar of Albia, Mrs. Maurice Costelo of Junction City, Kans., James Coady of Silvis, Ill., Francis and John Coady of Albia, Mrs. Elizabeth Coady, her aged mother, is living at Albia.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Father E.F. Gaule in charge. Burial was in the Lockridge cemetery.
