F. B HUNTZINGER, aged 88 years, and a resident of Fairfield since 1856, died at the residence on East Washington Street Saturday morning shortly before 11 o'clock.... Deceased, while not among the earliest of the pioneers of Jefferson County, was one of the very early residents and had a great deal to do in the upbuilding of Fairfield and this section. Following his marriage to Miss Sarah RUDY and removal to Jefferson County from his native state, Pennsylvania, he entered the trade of milling and through the remainder of his active business life, he followed nothing else. He was the builder of the second mill to be operated in Fairfield, furnishing the grists of early settlers over a very large territory. During his subsequent career he built two other mills in the city and one at Batavia, and another in Washington County, the latter being operated a number of years by him, while he continued to reside in Fairfield.

Mr. HUNTZINGER continued to operate a mill in this city up to the spring of 1889, when he sold to his son in law, Frank W. VOORHIES. This mill, located on North Third Street, is still being operated by Mr. VOORHIES.

Deceased lived a most commendable life and was ever a respected citizen. His business career during its early years, was one that might have discouraged most men, but he continued, making his two failures, one by fire and one by flood, in each of which a mill was lost, mere incidents in the way leading up to a final success.

Only last year, after a wedded life continuing for nearly 70 years, Mr. HUNTZINGER was preceded in death by his wife, who had been the true partner of his existence for a period longer than is allowed to but few indeed. They were the parents of eight children, six of whom are living. They are Mrs. Phoebe E. DAVIS of Des Moines, Mrs. G. A. UNKRICH of Des Moines, Mrs. W. H. AXLINE of Attica, and Mrs. Frank W. VOORHIES and Mrs. Caroline SHARP of this city.
