OBITUARY. Died, of Bronchial Consumption, Tuesday evening, May 21st, 1867, Rev. Cyrus E. CARPENTER, a superannuated member of the Missouri Annual Conference of the M.E. Church, at the house of Mrs. George CREAMER, in Fairfield, Iowa.... was born in Carroll Co., Indiana, April 2d, 1838, and with his father's family removed to Iowa in June, 1850, and settled in Jefferson County near Batavia, where, during a revival meeting, he embraced religion and united with the M.E. Church, January, 1852. Five years later, and after his removal to Fairfield, his pastor and brethren saw in him such native and gracious goodness as led to his appointment to the office of Class Leader at the age of 19 years. This gave him a disciplining that very soon developed his gifts and grace till it was thought he should have license to preach. Accordingly, the Church gave him authority, April 19th, 1858.... He spent the time hence doing efficient service, upon different charges, until October 16th, 1866, when he preached his last sermon, and returned home to endure a violent attack of hemorrhage of the lungs, from the effect of which he never recovered. Supposing the atmosphere of Iowa better for such an invalid than that of Missouri, and desiring to see his mother and other relatives, he came to Fairfield more than a month since, accompanied by his devoted wife...
