Death of Mrs. HAYWOOD.

Mary E. HOFFMAN, wife of T. J. HAYWOOD, died at her home in this city Monday morning, after an illness extending over a period of two years. Mrs. HAYWOOD was a native of Ohio and was born August 16th, 1833. When a child she came with her family to Iowa and had made her home in Jefferson county for many years. She was married November 2d, 1854, at Oskaloosa to Thomas J. HAYWOOD, who survives her. Mrs. HAYWOOD was a member of a family well known in the earlier days of Jefferson county and was a bright, energetic and kindly woman who enjoyed the esteem of many of our people. She had many friends in Fairfield and vicinity who will regret to learn of her death. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home on East Washington street and interment will be made in the Evergreen cemetery. Services will be conducted by Elder John A. Raines of the Christian church, of which denomination deceased was a member.

Mrs. Mary E., wife of T. J. HAYWOOD, died at her home in this city Monday morning, October 13th, of heart disease. She was born August 16, 1833. She came with her parents from Ohio to Iowa in 1845 and was married to T. J. HAYWOOD, November 2, 1854, in Mahaska county, Iowa. In 1885 they moved from Ft. Madison to Fairfield. She was a good woman always faithful in her duties to her husband. The funeral services were held from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Elder J. A. Raines officiating as the minister. The W. R. C. and many old soldiers attended the services. The sympathy of the community goes out to Comrade HAYWOOD and the adopted daughter in this hour of grief.

We are requested by Comrade Jeff HAYWOOD to thank the many friends who assisted in caring for his wife through her sickness.

Note: Her first obituary notes that she was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. This is not the case. She is in the adjacent Old Fairfield City Cemetery. In earlier days these two cemeteries were often referred to interchangably, as there is no boundary to separate the two such as a fence line or wall. Husband Thomas Jefferson HAYWOOD died in 1905 and was buried with her.
