DEATH OF THOMAS H. SHEWARD. Thomas H. SHEWARD died at his home in this city Saturday night at 10:20. He had been in ill health for some time, a sufferer from progressive paralysis, and since the 11th of November, his 68th birthday, had been confined to his room most of the time, while his death at any hour would not have been unexpected...
Mr. SHEWARD was born at Zanesville, Ohio, in 1818. He grew to manhood in that state, and on July 4th, 1844, was married to Nancy M. HOLBROOK, who survives him. Six children were born to them, four of whom, Charles L., J.T., L.A., and Mrs. Frank HUNTZINGER, are now living. In 1842 Mr. SHEWARD made his first trip to Iowa, but remained only a short time. In December, 1852, with his family, he removed to this city, and in January following made his home in the house on First North Street in which he died. In all the relations of life Mr. SHEWARD was an excellent man, and while not one who sought an extended acquaintance he had very many warm friendships among our older citizens. Honest and industrious, his last days on earth were spent in the undertaking establishment of Gibson & Beck, in which building he had been employed for many years....
