DEATH OF RICHARD H. VAN DORIN, one of the early settlers and well known residents of Fairfield, at this home in this city last Saturay afternoon at 4:15. Son of Jasper VAN DORIN and was born in Lexington, Ky., July 24, 1821, thus, at the time of death, 78 y. 3 m. 4 d.. Soldier of the Mexican and Civil wars. He was married here in Nov., 1848, to Miss Mary E. HEYWOOD.
Five children were born to them, Millard, who died in infancy; William, who died in Fairfield ten years ago; Cora, now Mrs. D. F. BANGS, of Devil's Lake, N.D.; Frank, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jennie, now Mrs. A. O. FAULKNER of Lincoln, Nebr..

VETERAN OF TWO WARS. Richard H. VAN DOREN..... in Jefferson County for half a century, died at his home in this city Saturday afternoon....
Came to Iowa with his parents in 1835 and to this city in the early '40s (May 1841). He was married here to Miss Mary E. HAYWOOD, Nov. 1, 1849, and the wife died January 15, 1894... Mr. VAN DOREN was a soldier and a pensioner of the Mexican War, and served in Company I of the Ninth Iowa Cavalry during the Civil War.... The remains were interred according to the ritual of the Grand Army of the Republic, George Strong Post having charge.....
