DEATH OF JAMES JEFFERS. James JEFFERS, an old and well known citizen of Jefferson County, died at his home in this city Wednesday evening. He had been in ill health for about three months past, suffering from inflammatory gastritis, and for much of that time it had been almost impossible for him to receive nourishment.
Mr. JEFFERS was born in Jefferson County, Ohio, July 15th, 1812, but his earlier life was spent in Belmont County (Ohio). There, in September, 1839, he was married to Miss Sarah MEEK, who survives him. In 1846 deceased came to this city, where he resided for about two years, returning to Ohio in 1848. In 1856 he again removed to Fairfield and it has since been his home.
He was the father of nine children, four of whom, two sons and two daughters, are now living, all but one, Margaret BROWN, in this city. Mr. JEFFERS united with the Methodist Church in early manhood, and had lived consistently with his faith for more than 50 years. He had also been a Mason for nearly half a century, and was the last of the charter members of Clinton Lodge, No. 15, of this city to be called to his long home. He was an excellent citizen, a thoroughly honest man, a good husband and father, and a wide circle of friends will mourn his death. The funeral occurred Friday morning from the Methodist Church, Rev. D. C. Smith, the pastor, conducting the services. The remains were interred in the City Cemetery with Masonic honors.
