MRS. JOHN WINTER TAKEN IN DEATH. Mrs. John E. WINTER, long-time resident of the Fairfield community, died Saturday about 11 p.m. at the Osceola Hospital in Sibley, Ia., where she had been a patient for one day. She had been in failing health for several years. She spent almost her entire life in this community, but went to Sibley two years ago to make her home with her son, Lawrence WINTER. Last rites will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Eagle in charge. Burial will be in the Fairfield Cemetery.

Elfie Dell WINTER, 74, was born Sept. 28 (or 29?), 1883, at Packwood, Iowa, the daughter of the late Jonathan and Rhoda MYERS LONGERBONE. She was united in marriage to John E. WINTER on May 15, 1904, at Fairfield. He died April 19, 1945. A member of the Christian Church, she spent 72 years of her life in Jefferson County. Mrs. WINTER is survived by the following children: Mrs. E. E. CRAWFORD, Washington; Mrs. Peter SCOTT, Arvada, Colo.; Mrs. Marion MARR, Mt. Pleasant; John A. WINTER, Alva WINTER and Russell J. WINTER, all of Fairfield; and Lawrence "Unk" WINTER, Ocheyedan. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. She was the last of a family of seven children; and was also preceded in death by one daughter and two sons.
