JOHN WINTER DIES TODAY

John E. WINTER, 61, passed away this morning at 9:45 at the Jefferson county hospital following a stroke suffered Tuesday evening at his home. He had been in poor health the past four years. He resided in Fairfield for the past 42 years and had been in the painting business the past 47 years. He was a member of the Christian church.

Mr. WINTER was born May 15, 1883 and was married on May 15, 1903 to Elsie (sic - Elfie Dell) LONGERBONE, who survives.

Surviving besides his wife are five sons: Virgil and Alva both of Fairfield; John A. of Mt. Pleasant; S 2/C Russell, stationed at Great Lakes, Ill., and Lt. Lawrence in the Marines stationed at Camp Le Jeune, North Carolina; three daughters: Mrs. Ernest CRAWFORD of Salina; Mrs. O. B. WILLIAMS, Guernsey, Wyoming; and Mrs. Marion MARR of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Mrs. Alberta LANAM of Rock Island, Illinois; and 18 grandchildren. One son and one daughter preceded him in death.

The body is at the Hoskins funeral home pending arrangements.

Note: Buried in Old Fairfield City Cemetery, Lot 74. His gravestone has a birth year of 1884, which is incorrect; he was born in 1883. Wife Elfie would die in 1958, and is buried with him.
