Twenty Witnesses Being Examined In Connection With the Affair Today

A coroner's inquest behind closed doors was underway here today into the death Friday of Mrs. Matt KNOPP of East Pleasant Plain. The investigation was started at the request of Mrs. KNOPP's brother Anthony BISKAY (sic - BISKEY), of Chicago. Mrs. KNOPP was brought to the Jefferson county hospital a week ago. She died Friday and was buried yesterday. Her husband was questioned but he declared there had been no trouble between them. H (sic) said he was in the basement, attending the furnace when he heard his wife fall.

Included among the eighteen witnesses summoned for today's hearing were the two KNOPP children, Adam 12, and Angeline 8. Physicians who conducted an autopsy and nurses who attended Mrs. KNOPP at the hospital also were to testify along with relatives and neighbors of Mrs. KNOPP.

The inquiry went on in the courtroom and in the judge's private office in the court house and witnesses and court officials came and went all day. The inquest began at 9 o'clock.

Those subpoenaed were: Matt KNOPP, husband of the dead woman; Mrs. Leonard R. GREENFIELD, Clarence and Bernece KNOPP and Mrs. Frank BANNACK (sic) and Adam and Angeline KNOPP, children; Anthony BISKEY, the brother; Mrs. Paul BISKEY, mother; Mrs. Adam Peck and Max Peck, neighbors; Mrs. John SHEMANSKI, a sister; F. E. Butler, the undertaker; Dr. E. G. Myrick, Dr. W. T. Webb, Dr. L. D. James and Dr. G. K. Dunkel, physicians who attended her and performed the autopsy. OBITUARY

MRS. MATT KNOPP

The community was saddened Friday when it became known that Mrs Matt KNOPP had answered the call of death and entered through the gates of Heaven where suffering is no more. Her life had been full of kindness, always kind and willing to do all she could for her family. Her friends were many and she will be greatly and sadly missed by those who knew her best.

Mary Josephine BISKEY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul BISKEY, was born December 2, 1877, and on November 19, 1895 (sic - Nov. 20, 1895) she was married to Matt KNOPP and to this union 8 children were born. Two dying in infancy and the living children are Mrs. Leonard GREENFIELD and Clarence KNOPP of this city, Bernice KNOPP of Des Moines and Mrs. Frank BANACH, Adams and Anglen (sic - Angeline) at home. She also leaves 3 brothers 1 sister, Frank and Egnus KISKEY (sic - BISKEY) of Chicago, John BISKEY of Milwaukee and one sister Mrs. John CAEULFIELD (sic - CAULFIELD) of Chicago and three grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. About October 1 1928 she was operated on but medical care and the loving care of her children and husband and friends was of no avail and she slipped away from the life Feb. 15, 1929. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 oclock at the St. Joseph church by Rev. Father Kramer and she was laid to rest by her grandchild Raymond Edward BANACH who passed away 3 months ago. Mrs. KNOPP was a good wife and mother and she loved life and laid it down bravely and all the while her voice growing fainter and her breath weaker and perhaps the wind in the trees whispered a little more gently because a soul had passed and mother was at rest and the Gates of Heaven swung wide open one week ago when she was called to rest. But God knew best and took her from her family, friends and loved ones. And as she sleeps among her loved ones to listen to the music of winds where soft rains, changing seasons. Mrs. Mary Josephine KNOPP sleeps well in a beautiful casket and in the vault where she was laid to rest among the flowers forever.

Oh, mother dear how we miss you only those who have lost a mother can tell. Our home is so lonesome without you. We miss you every where. There is not a day dear mother we do not think of you. But you left us to remember that no one on earth can take your place and yet again we hope to meet you when we all can shed our tears together.
