DIED -- At the residence of his mother, in Fairfield, Iowa, March 2d, 1866, Mr. Francis R. GAINES, in the 23d year of his age. In August, 1862, Mr. GAINES enlisted in the army of his country, Co. G, 30th Iowa. After 18 months service, and passing through nine battles, he was so debilitated with scurvy and chronic diarrhoea, as to compel his return home, where continued his suffering severely with these diseases until his death.... His life has gone at last, a sacrifice upon the altar of his country.....
