Verda May FLIGG

Verda May FLIGG, 103, of Des Moines, former Fairfield resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1992, at Wesley Acres Methodist Retirement Home in Des Moines (note: in Polk Co., IA). She would have been 104 in March.

Mrs. FLIGG was born on a farm near Salina on March 23, 1889. Her maiden name was GREEN. She married Edward G. FLIGG, a retired Fairfield grocery store owner, in the early 1950s. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield most of her life and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1958, Mr. FLIGG's son Edward Keith died and left two orphaned grade-school boys, Robert Keith and Alan James. Verda and Edward G. FLIGG, who at that time were in their 70s, took the boys and raised them through their school years. Mr. FLIGG died in 1970.

Surviving are the two grandsons, Robert K. of San Diego, Alan J. of Tucson, Ariz., and four great-grandsons.

Mrs. FLIGG willed her body to the University of Ostoepathic Medicine in Des Moines for scientific study.
