Harold Glen Smith, 68, an employe of the U.S. Park Service for 33 years, died Monday at his home in Cocoa Beach, Fla. He had suffered from emphysema.
Mr. Smith joined the park service in 1953 as a junior clerk in the building branch, and later became a budget officer, chief of program coordination, and then executive assistant to the director.
He received the Department of the Interior's Distinguished Service Award for "outstanding contributions in the fields of budget administration, program coordination, and planning," before he retired in 1968.
Mr. Smith was born in Batavia, Iowa. He moved here in 1930 and worked for five years for the Veterans Administration.
He earned an accounting degree at Benjamin University in Washington. Mr. Smith retired to Florida in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Olive, of the home; three sons, Alan D., of Evanston, Ill., Donald R., of Lynchburg, Va., and Robert D., of McLean; a brother, W. Claude, of Polock Pines, Fla; a sister, Evelyn Simmons, of Fairfield, Iowa, and two grandchildren.
