SERVICES FOR ROBERT FLIGG HELD MONDAY
Military escort, First Methodist church to Evergreen cemetery

Attended by a large concourse of friends, the funeral services for Robert FLIGG, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. FLIGG, 310 West Burlington street, were held Monday afternoon at four o'clock from the First Methodist church.

The service was in charge of Dr. M. A. Gable, pastor of the church assisted by Dr. Eric L. Clitheroe, Professor of Religious Education at Parsons college. Mrs. Frank H. Pierson acted as organist, rendering numerous familiar and favorite hymn tunes.

Following the reading of Scripture passages, Dr. Clitheroe spoke informally of his close personal relations with Robert FLIGG. He first knew him as a student in his class at college. Soon, however, he was taken ill and since that time professor and student had become close friends, seeing each other often through Dr. Clitheroe's calls at the home. Just recently when Dr. Clitheroe was in the Jefferson county hospital, Robert, well enough to be up, had gone to the hospital to call on his instructor. Their intimate conversations indicated that the youth had solved the problem of death as well as the problem of life.

Dr. Gable used as his text words in II Cor. 2:9. "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

He spoke at some length of the uncomprehended things "prepared for those who love Him," seeing these sure mercies as cause for calm assurance. He spoke also of Robert's membership in the church, his expressed faith and cheerful uncomplaning attitude.

The body lay in state at the church previous to the ceremony. The floral tributes were beautiful and very numerous. The pallbearers were Lee Gobble, Robert Williamson, Roy Simpson, Jack WARD, Darrel Sinn and Lawrence ROGERS.

Robert FLIGG having been a member of the 133rd Infantry band, that organization furnished a guard of honor and an escort to the grave, which was in command of Lieut. John McIntire. Following the brief service at the grave, in Evergreen cemetery, "taps" (sic - Taps) were blown by Charles Brown and Lloyd Hanshaw.
