DIED, May 30, 1861, of inflammation of the stomach and bowels, at his residence in Des Moines Township, Jefferson Co., Iowa, Samuel SHIPLER, aged 74 years and a few months.

Native of Pennsylvania, resided in Mercer and Fayette Counties, that state, and also at or near Wheeling, Va.. Removed to his late residence in Des Moines Township about 18 years ago. Upright citizen. Wife and five children, all married and respectably settled in life, survive. He met the last enemy with calmness and resignation.
