Wm. A. BAILEY, 71, retired contractor and builder, died at 9:50 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Escoe MESSER, 603 W. Jackson street. Mr. BAILEY had been seriously ill for the past three months.
The funeral services will be at the Weston Behner funeral home Friday, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. G. H. Dingman will be in charge, and burial will be at the Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. BAILEY was a lifetime resident of this community. He was in the contracting business for 38 years and directed the building of many homes in Fairfield. He retired in 1929.
Mr. BAILEY was born June 4, 1878 in Fairfield. He was the son of James B. and Emmaline Henrietta BLOOMFIELD BAILEY. On July 11, 1899, he married Ada Brown HOUGH, who preceded him in death January 21, 1933.
He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Jay R. HOWARD, Mrs. Escoe MESSER, Clarence BAILEY and Mrs. Harold HARRISON, all of Fairfield; Mrs. Harvey NICHOLS (sic - NICHOLAS), Waterloo; Mrs. Perry M. COUCH, Lancaster, Mo., and Mrs. James R. JONES, Birmingham; and 13 grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Margaret McINTIRE, preceded him in death.
Brothers and sisters surviving him include Mrs. George ANDERSON and McKinley BAILEY, Fairfield; Mrs. Clarence BATES, Birmingham; Mrs. Oliver CARLSON, Overland, Mo., and Mrs. Marion FISHBURN, Farmington, Iowa.
