Emery W. CARTER, 88, lifetime resident of the Libertyville area, died at 4 a.m. today at the Ottumwa hospital (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
A retired farmer and insurance agent, he underwent surgery at hospital Feb. 3.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral home in charge of the Rev. Elton Coleman. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
CARTER was born Dec. 20, 1872, near Libertyville, son of William A. and Mary Ann CARSON CARTER. He was married to Hermie MOORE Nov. 17, 1897. She preceded him in death May 25, 1945. On July 22, 1947, he was married to Hattie MILLER, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alvin HIATT and Mildred CARTER, both of Fairfield; two grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. One brother and one sister are deceased.
CARTER was a member of the Methodist church.

Jefferson County, ss.To All Whom It May Concern:
You Are Hereby Notified, That an instrument of writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Emery W. CARTER, deceased, dated October 31, 1955 having been this day filed opened and read, Monday the 27th day of February 1961 is fixed for hearing proof of same at the Court House in Fairfield, Iowa, before the District Court of said County of the Clerk of said Court; and at 9:30 o'clock a.m. of the day above mentioned all persons interested are hereby notified and required to appear, and show cause if any they have, why said instrument should not be probated and allowed as and for the last Will and Testament of said deceased.
