DEATH OF THOMAS MORGAN.
Many old friends of Thomas MORGAN in this city will be pained to learn of his death, near Ft. Meade, Florida, June 17th. Arthur BRADBURY, son of D. BRADBURY, of this city, writes a letter giving the particulars. On the 10th ult., he and Mr. MORGAN returned from a trip of fifty miles to Kissima City, where they had been after Mr. M's household goods. They had a hard journey, and Mr. MORGAN was taken ill shortly after his return. His remains were interred there. The blow is a severe one to his aged wife and daughter, but they think they will remain in Florida.
Thomas MORGAN was a native of Pennsylvania, and was an old settler of Jefferson county, coming to this city sometime in the 40's. He was a teamster for many years, and held the office of street commissioner and other minor public offices. Upon the breaking out of the war, he enlisted in Co. I, 17th Iowa Infantry, a company raised by H. N. MOORE. He was mustered into the service April 11, 1862, as first corporal. He served three years. In 1885 he was nominated by the republicans of this county for the office of county judge (See Legder, August 24, 1865), was elected, and re-elected in 1867, serving four years. He made an efficient official and was a strong candidate for renomination. As a man and a neighbor, Thomas MORGAN was esteemed and respected. He was thoroughly honest and upright and conscientious.
He was always an excellent speciman of physical manhood for one of his years, his age being about 78 years. He left this city with his family April 13th of this year.
