Fairfield, Ia., March 23.- The funeral of John S. Howell, whose death occurred at his home, 601 North Third street, Friday night, was held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the First Methodist church. Dr. C.L. Tennant, pastor, conducted the services, after which the funeral party drove to Glasgow, where short services were held by Rev. C.J. Bowles, and the burial took place in the Glasgow cemetery.
Mr. Howell was born March 8, 1859, on a farm three and a half miles southeast of Glasgow, and had spent all of his life excepting four years in Jefferson county. He was married to Nina Z. Gregory, Dec. 31, 1879, and to them were born three children, the daughter preceding her father in death several years.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, D.D. Howell and W.N. Howell, both of this city; two brothers, J.C. Howell of Fairfield and B.W. Howell of Vidora, Canada, and a sister, Mrs. W.H. Brewer, of this city.
