DEATH OF THOMAS VORHIES. Born in 1840 on the farm he now lives (lived) on; grew to manhood and 1864 enlisted in the army, Co. E (45th Iowa Inf. Reg.) for 100 days. Married at age 25 to Miss Rebecca SCARF who died 20 years ago (sic - in 1879). Four children, two of whom survive their father. They are John and May. Remains interred in Vorhies Cemetery Monday...
