JOSEPH PETER PACHA, born July 4, 1882 in Pleasant Plain, son of the late FRANK and MARIE BENDA PACHA; educated in the public schools, Pleasant Plain Academy and Iowa State College at Ames; married CLARA F. PEIFFER of Keota, Iowa, Nov. 29, 1911; they started housekeeping on a farm three miles east of Pleasant Plain and then moved to Brighton on Dec. 7, 1942. Lifetime member of St. Joseph’s church in East Pleasant Plain; secretary of the Germanville Mutual Insurance Association for 38 years; K. C. Survived by wife and five children: Leonard J. PACHA, Wayland; Rev. Raymond J. PACHA, St. Patrick’s parish, Iowa City; Lt. Col. Harold F. PACHA, Springfield, Illinois; Richard P. PACHA, East Pleasant Plain; and Mrs. Elmer ADAM, Richland; 19 grandchildren, 3 sisters: Martha PACHA, East Pleasant Plain; Sister Mary WALTRUDE, B.V.M., Dubuque; Mrs. Mary YATES, East Pleasant Plain; John J. and Albert PACHA, both of Brighton. Preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, 3 grandchildren, 2 sisters and 5 brothers….Requiem mass will be held Tues. 10 a.m. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at East Pleasant Plain…Burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Joseph P. PACHA Of Brighton Is Taken

BRIGHTON -- Joseph Peter PACHA, 72, prominent retired farmer of the Pleasant Plain community, died at 1:20 p.m. in the Jefferson county hospital at Fairfield. He had been taken to the hospital Wednesday following a stroke suffered Tuesday. He had been failing in health for the past two years.

Mr. PACHA had served as secretary of the Germanville Mutual Insurance association for 37 years prior to his retirement from that post in 1951.

Rosary services will be held at 8 p.m. tonight in the Omar Hoskins funeral home at Brighton.

Solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic church in East Pleasant Plain with Mr. PACHA's son, Rev. Raymond J. PACHA, as celebrant. Rev. E. P. Seidel will serve as deacon, Rev. Wilbert Sondag as sub-deacon and Rev. L. G. Bergthold as master of ceremonies.

Born in 1882

Mr. PACHA was born July 4, 1882 near Pleasant Plain. He was the son of Frank and Mary BENDA PACHA. He attended public schools, the Pleasant Plain academy and Iowa State College.

On Nov. 29, 1911 he was married to Clara PEIFFER at Keota, and they went to housekeeping three miles west of Pleasant Plain. They lived on that farm until Dec. 7, 1944 when they moved to Brighton.

Mr. PACHA was a life-long member of St. Joseph's church. He was very active in work of the Knights of Columbus, serving as advocate for 18 years. He was a third degree member of Washington KC council and a fourth degree member of the KC assembly at Harper.

Survivors include his wife and five children: Leonard of near Wayland, Rev. Raymond J. PACHA of St. Patrick's parish in Iowa City, Lt. Col. Harold PACHA of Springfield, Ill., Richard PACHA of East Pleasant Plain; one daughter, Mrs. Elmer ADAM of near Richland; 19 grandchildren; three sisters, Mary PACHA and Mrs. Mary YATES of East Pleasant Plain, Sister Mary WALTRUDE BVM of Dubuque; three brother, Frank of East Pleasant Plain and John and Albert of Brighton.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Josephine; three grandchildren; two sisters and five brothers.
