LUCAS B. ZAHARRIS, 96, retired Pleasant Plain farmer, died Fri.; born Oct. 18, 1860 in Poland, son of MARTIN and MARY ZAHARRIS, came to the U. S. in 1882; m. SOPHIA (GLUCH) Sept. 15, 1883; she died Mar. 9, 1931. He is survived by 97 direct descendants…..

Lucas ZAHARRIS

FAIRFIELD -- Lucas B. ZAHARRIS, 96, a long-time resident of the Pleasant Plain community, died in Jefferson County hospital at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 16. He had been a resident of the Crawford nursing home prior to being admitted to the hospital on Nov. 15.

ZAHARRIS was born in Poland on Oct. 18, 1860, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin ZAHARRIS. He had been a resident of Jefferson county since 1882. He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic church of Fairfield.

On Sept. 15, 1883, ZAHARRIS was married to Sylvia GLUCK (sic - GLUCH). She died March 9, 1931. A son, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters also died previously.

Four sons and four daughters survive: Nicholas ZAHARRIS, Tacoma, Wash.; Joseph ZAHARRIS, Centerville, A. E. ZAHARRIS, Lynwood, Calif.; I. V. ZAHARRIS, Mitchell, S. Dak.; Mrs. Belle PETRICK, Rochester, Minn.; Mrs. Helen KASKA, Pleasant Plain; Mrs. Ann MALLOY, Leola, S. Dak.; and Mrs. Sophia TRACY, of Fairfield.

Also surviving are a brother, John ZAHARRIS, Antivert, Calif.; 36 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hoskins funeral home.
