See pgs. 495-498 of "1878 History of Jefferson County", for early history of Batavia, first called Creaseville. Laid out 26 Aug 1846 by David SWITZER, County Surveyor, for William M. McKEE, Henry CREASE, and Elijah O'BANNON, Proprietors.... the name was changed from Creaseville to Batavia, under special act approved Jan. 19, 1853.
